Parish Life Christian Education
What is Godly Play? Godly Play is a religious education curriculum developed by Jerome Berryman, and based on the Montessori method of teaching. In Godly play, we prepare a special environment for children to work with adult guides. Two teachers will guide the session, making time for the children: to participate in the opening of the church service. to enter the learning space and be greeted. to get ready for the presentation. to enter into the presentation based on a parable, sacred story or liturgical action. to respond to the presentation through shared wondering. to respond to the presentation (or other significant spiritual issue) with their own work, either expressive art or with the lesson materials. to be responsible and clean up, then say goodbye and return to church to receive communion with parents and guardians. Classes are split up into appropriate age groups: K-2nd grade 3rd-5th grade 6-8th grade (the Tweens)
You and your children are encouraged to be an active part of our Sunday school program. Our youth are such important members of our church community. Throughout the year we will be scheduling fun trips and events that will be posted in the Great Hall. Nursery care will be made available during the 10:00 service for those with tiny tots. Help is appreciated and a sign-up sheet is available. If you are interested in helping out with our nursery or Sunday school program, please contact Richard Harrison.
